Heena didn’t expect to miss Nepali food so much—until she got to Boston.
“I thought I’d find authentic flavors here, but most things were… different. Americanized.”

Here’s her take on food, homesickness, and the one snack she still dreams about.
Nepal’s Street Food Culture Hits Different
In Nepal, food isn’t just about eating—it’s about connection.
✨ Hanging out at momo stalls with friends
✨ Grabbing chaat after school
✨ Long evenings at local cafes sharing plates

“It’s the flavors, but also the vibe,” Heena says. “Back home, food feels alive. It’s fresh, spicy, and cooked right in front of you.”
Boston’s Food Scene: The Reality Check
In Boston, things were… fine.
“There are great restaurants, but it’s not the same. Even the Chinese food tastes Americanized. And don’t get me started on Panipuri—it’s so hard to find!”
The grab-and-go culture didn’t help either.
“You eat fast, and you’re done. No lingering with friends, no street food energy.”

What She Misses Most
Heena’s list is long, but if she had to pick one?
“Panipuri. Nothing here comes close.”
She also misses:
✅ Momos from roadside stalls
✅ Authentic Nepali thalis
✅ The unbeatable price of street eats

Her Takeaway?
“Food is such a big part of feeling at home. I’ve learned to cook some Nepali dishes myself, but nothing beats the real thing.”
